[[[-IF5-P18.TXT-]]] ---------------- Island Fever 5: Family Written by: JeremyDCP M/F, F/F and a whole lot more ---------------- Chapter 18: "Sparkle" ------------------------------------------- -*- Thursday, March 31, 2016 -*- -*- Bærums Verk, Norway -*- Trish had a bounce in her step and a smile on her face as she exited the chiropractor's office alongside me here in Bærums Verk, a small village just north of where we resided in Sandvika. "I am SOOOOO happy that Jackson doesn't have to come back here for another three months," Trish chirped, looking up at me as I held and snuggled our six-week-old son in my arms. "Oh, I feel so much better now!" Indeed, the doctor who had been treating Jackson for the past four weeks - actually, she was a chiropractor - had just given our infant son a clean bill of health as it pertained to the muscular disorder that was found in his neck and shoulder. Jackson had been diagnosed with congenital torticollis, a non-painful condition in which his head was slightly tilted to one side. It was caused by one of the sternocleidomastoid muscles - connecting the neck and shoulders - having been damaged either while he was still in the womb or during childbirth itself. Jackson no longer tilted his head and, according to Dr. Evenstad, the straining of his sternocleidomastoid muscle was gone. We considered ourselves very lucky; Jackson's torticollis had been very minor and would not take months of treatment and caregiver visits to fix. Nor would it require surgery. He completed his therapy in just four weeks. All that was left was a final, follow-up visit to the chiropractor in June. At least we hoped it would be the final visit, barring any unforeseen complications and/or reoccurrences. I handed Jackson off to Trish, who promptly placed him into his baby car seat in the back of our 2016 _Cadillac CTS-V_. I stood idly by and watched Trish, who looked spectacular in a Toronto Maple Leafs replica jersey. A life-long fan of professional hockey and her hometown team from Toronto, Trish had on the white version of the jersey with the blue team logo across its front. Too bad her beloved Maple Leafs were tied for the worst record in the league this season and would miss out on the playoffs for the 11th time in 12 years. "Hey there!" Trish purred at Jackson, as I watched her lean into the back of the car and hover her gaze just over him. "Jackson! Can you smile for Mommy? Oh, smile for Mommy? You're just so cute!" Jackson was trying his absolute best to communicate with Trish; the infant was making scrunchy faces as his arms and legs flailed about in various directions. ...
