A lazy, warm mid-July morning... “Good morning, Josh!” Sam beamed at me. The glint in her green eyes, matched the sweetness of her smile and it made my day just that much brighter. “So, the usual? Chai Latte?” “Yes!” I smiled back and continued the little flirtation we'd shared since the beginning of the summer. “You know me so well” I joked. “Well, you are just sooo predictable that way, ”she playfully retorted. The morning rush had filtered out and the coffee shop was now mellower. A few people sat reading their papers and some were immersed in their laptops. It was my favorite time of day to come, when the fresh of the morning was still present, but the rush of the working middle class jostling for their java had subsided. What had made me look forward even more to my morning routine was when Sam, short for Samantha, got hired a couple of months ago. Her family had just moved into our town and this was her summer job Sam, unlike so many girls from the local high school, was very different from the rest of them. She had a great energy that I found to be very engaging and easy to be with, she was comfortable in her own skin and simply radiated sunshine every time we talked. During my time at the coffee shop, Sam would often come by to chat with me as she cleaned up the tables around the store when things were quiet. We would talk of life, school, perceptions and the latest gossip in our somewhat small upper class village. We laughed and teased each other a lot, there was good chemistry, alchemy, astrology, or whatever it was, between us; next to my coffee, Sam soon became my morning addiction. As it turned out, Sam’s father was a diplomat and her mom was a lecturer at the local college. As a kid, she and her family had lived in a few countries and enjoyed a lot of travel. It definitely showed in the way she carried herself, something that I found to be very attractive, if not reminiscent of my wife when we first met many years ago. Ah yes, my wife. So let me tell you a little bit about me now. I’m forty two, easy on the eyes, in good shape, ...
