Time had passed since the two of us were together in Texas. Now it was Christine's turn to visit the Valley of the Sun. At first she was hesitant, but I finally talked her into the trip. Christine flew to Phoenix and I picked her up at Sky Harbor Airport. We headed east into the foothills of the Superstition Mountains. On the way to my place, I could tell something was not right with Christine. I said to her, "What's wrong? Is it something I did or said?" "No, I never told you. I lived in Arizona before and my dad is buried in the southern part of the state. I'm in just a little melancholy when I remember those things," she said. "I am sorry, I didn't know. We'll have to work on changing your outlook on Arizona from a negative to a positive." That night, we went to Rustler's Rooste, a western-themed restaurant with a great view of greater Phoenix. It was red meat and a beautiful evening view of the valley from South Mountain. Dinner was great, and then a drive with the top down to enjoy the desert. It was pleasant and a great way to finish off dinner. During the drive, Christine started to confide in me on how her dad moved to Arizona, got ill, and passed away. For her, Arizona was not a place of good memories. "Well, we can do whatever you want. If you want to revisit some old memories or explore new areas, it's up to you.
